At the age of just 17 Josh Thomas was the youngest ever winner of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s RAW Comedy Competition in 2005.  He also made the finals of So You Think You’re Funny, Edinburgh’s equivalent to RAW Comedy.  He thought he was the King of the world.  His next gig was in a scary you-might-actually-die-when-they-stab-you style Tavern in front of 12 comics and a man sitting at the bar crying into his beer.

After only a few short years of performing stand up Josh’s unique talent has the Australian Comedy Industry abuzz.  His virginal looks and cutting dialect combine to create a voice that is genuinely distinct and exciting. For a performer so young to have such an honest and developed sense of who he is on stage is quite remarkable.

In 2007 Josh built a reputation for wearing cardigans, however not wanting to be type cast he then moved into V-neck knitted sweaters in 2008.

2008 has seen Josh perform solo seasons at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival as well as the invitation only Smithwicks Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny, Ireland.  Following on from this, he has been invited to perform at a Comedy Festival in Belgium where he’ll get to try out his best Flemish jokes…

Expanding his TV dance card, Josh has become a regular favourite on Network Ten’s Good News Week, with 4 appearances already this year.  Josh also had his first Rove appearance and has started writing for the show, with a definite highlight being Bert Newton reading one of his jokes.

2007 was also a cracker year for Josh, picking up the gong for the Melbourne Airport Best Newcomer at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, for his first ever solo show, Please Like Me.  This was followed by 6 weeks touring with the Comedy Festival Roadshow and an invitation to perform at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal in July.

In 2006, Josh performed in The Comedy Zone, a showcase of Australia's best new talent presented by the Melbourne Comedy Festival. He was critically regarded as the highlight of that show.  As a result he was asked to perform at the annual Moosehead Award Benefit Night, in front of a 1500 strong crowd at the Melbourne Town Hall.

Josh currently runs Livewired, a comedy room in Brisbane’s Powerhouse Centre for the Arts, every Sunday evening.  The room is proving to be a big hit with comics and audiences alike and has just been voted the Best Free Activity according to www.ourbrisbane.com

Josh’s aim is to become Cleo’s most eligible bachelor.
